About Holdtotal
Holdtotal is a manual crypto portfolio tracker for Android, and this site is where its publisher explains how the app works and what the numbers on a portfolio screen mean.
Who publishes this
The app and the site are published by SMARTNESS HOME, which also operates smartnesshome.com. Articles here are published under the Holdtotal name rather than a personal byline: they are written for the brand, and a made-up author would tell you less than an honest absence of one. The publisher's full identification — company, registered office, publication director — is on the Terms of Use page, as are the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer.
How the guides are sourced
Every figure, rule and date in an article is attributed in the sentence that uses it, to a
source that publishes it first-hand: the operator of the data, the agency that wrote the rule,
or a protocol's own documentation. When a claim cannot be traced to a source of that kind, it
does not go in. Prices quoted anywhere on this site, and the prices the app shows, come from
CoinGecko: the app asks holdtotal.com/api/prices, which builds one price file
from CoinGecko and serves the same file to every device, and it falls back to CoinGecko
directly when that endpoint is unreachable. CoinGecko is the only price source.
Dates, and what happens when something changes
Each article shows the day it was published and, once it has been revised, the day of the revision — the same two dates that go into the page's structured data and the site's sitemap, so a reader and a search engine are never told different things. A correction is made in the article itself and the revision date moves; nothing is quietly rewritten and left looking untouched.
Reporting an error
If something here is wrong, say so and it gets checked. The publisher's contact address is on the Terms of Use page, in the publisher block. Quote the page and the sentence — that is enough to find it.
What this site is not
- Not investment advice. Nothing here recommends buying, holding or selling anything, and no article predicts a price. Crypto prices move; the Disclaimer says it in full.
- Not a tax tool. The app does not calculate tax and does not follow your transactions. It stores the amounts you typed in and multiplies them by a market price.
- Not a wallet. Holdtotal holds no keys, connects to no exchange and cannot move funds. It never asks for a recovery phrase, and no tracker should.
- Not free of advertising. The app is free because it carries ads through Google AdMob, which collects the device and ad data set out in the Privacy Policy. Your holdings are not part of it.
Where to start
- Manual tracking — Guides to keeping a crypto portfolio by hand: what you type in, what stays on the phone, and how a manual tracker compares with a spreadsheet.
- Privacy and safety — What crypto tracker apps collect, which Android permissions to refuse, and how fake trackers and seed-phrase requests are staged to look ordinary.
- Android widgets — Home-screen widgets for a crypto portfolio on Android: how to add one, how to resize it, how often it refreshes, and what it shows when a price is missing.
- Crypto numbers explained — What the figures on a portfolio screen mean: 24-hour change, market cap, cost basis, satoshis, and why two apps can quote slightly different prices.
